Ice Cubed
In science class, Calvin learned that ice cubes are created when water, which has been poured into a cube-shaped container, changes from a liquid to a solid state due to the loss of heat. This change occurs at the freezing point of water, which is 32° Fahrenheit or 0° Celsius.

Many ice cubes are not really cubes at all. In order for a shape to be a cube, its length, width, and height must all be equal in measure. In many cases, ice cubes are actually ice rectangular prisms.

Calvin set about creating an ice cube that was actually a perfect cube. He constructed a mold that was exactly 18 centimeters long by 18 centimeters wide by 18 centimeters high. His ice cube was so big, he had to break the mold to get the cube out!

Calvin wanted to show his cube creation to his science class. He looked for a shallow pan that he could use to display his perfect cube. He found a pan that was 7 inches long by 7 inches wide by 1 inch high. Will his cube fit in this pan?
